This project included cabinetry for a new-build ADU and a main house addition, covering the kitchen, pantry, laundry room, powder room, primary bath suite, and office. With six different finishes and countless unique details, it became a true showcase of design, function, and craftsmanship.
Project Scope
This Laguna Beach home required custom cabinetry across multiple spaces:
- Kitchen – Panel-front refrigerator and dishwasher, shaker cabinetry, and a custom range hood.
- Pantry – Face frame inset construction with wire mesh door inserts and a panel-ready wine column.
- Laundry Room – Built-in cabinetry, folding counter, and a claro walnut hanging rod made from slab off-fall.
- Powder Room – Claro walnut live-edge shelves with natural character.
- Primary Bath Suite – Floating walnut vanities with roll-out drawers, and a freestanding walnut cabinet with arched doors.
- ADU – Frameless shaker kitchen, bathroom cabinetry, and an office with cane webbing cabinet doors.
Each space was designed to balance functionality, durability, and timeless design.
A Palette of Finishes
This project used six unique finishes to give each space its own identity while keeping a cohesive feel:
- Two shades of blue for coastal character.
- Two shades of gray for subtle modern tones.
- Stained white oak for natural warmth.
- Stained walnut for rich, elegant depth.
The mix of painted finishes with natural wood grains created a beautiful contrast and flow throughout the home.
ADU Cabinetry – Frameless Shaker with Custom Details
The ADU cabinetry featured frameless construction paired with shaker doors for a clean, timeless look.
- Kitchen – Panel-ready appliances and solid maple drawers with Blum Tandem glides.
- Office – Cabinet doors with cane webbing inserts, adding warmth and texture.

Pantry & Laundry Room – Practical and Beautiful
Pantry
The pantry cabinetry was built in a face frame inset style with shaker doors, providing traditional character. Wire mesh inserts brought texture and airflow, while the panel-ready wine column blended seamlessly with the cabinetry.
Laundry Room
The laundry cabinetry paired style with everyday function. A Claro walnut hanging rod—crafted from off-fall from the powder room slab—added a unique, sustainable detail that tied two spaces together.
Powder Room – Claro Walnut Live Edge Shelves
The powder room shelving was cut from a Claro walnut live-edge slab, highlighting the natural shape of the wood. This detail turned a simple powder room into a statement space full of character.
Primary Bath Suite – Floating Walnut & Marble
The primary bath suite cabinetry is a true highlight of this project:
- Frameless walnut slab fronts, grain-matched vertically.
- Floating vanities with four roll-out drawers each.
- A freestanding walnut cabinet with arched doors sitting on a custom walnut pedestal.
- Earthquake bracing to ensure safety while maintaining a clean, floating look.
The combination of walnut cabinetry and white stone counters created a luxurious spa-like retreat.
Craftsmanship & Collaboration
This project was possible thanks to outstanding collaboration between the clients, their designer, GC, and trades.
- Mission Wood Finishing delivered flawless finishes, spraying doors in the booth and handling casework on site.
- Sam at Cabinets and Doors Direct in Pomona CNC-cut panels from our Cabinet Vision files and created the custom arched doors.
- Our in-house team worked tirelessly to bring the second half of the project to completion.
